Some 40 swine raisers in Dao, Dauis, Bohol received indemnity checks worth P 800,000.00 from the Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7) as financial compensation due to the depopulation efforts. Depopulation of swine is being conducted to an area within the specified radius to prevent the spread of the economically important disease like the African Swine Fever (ASF). Roman Dabalos, DA7’s Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer of Bohol (APCO-Bohol), encouraged the affected farmers not to lose hope, informing them that the financial support of DA would aide in their recovery. He also stressed the importance of preventing contamination and the spread of the virus. He urged the farmers to report immediately to the authorities any detected incidence, issues and concerns, to be always vigilant, and avoid buying meat from unauthorized sellers to ensure the prevention and safety of the swine industry. A recipient of the indemnity check, Mark Donald Adaptar Rabanal, expressed his gratitude to the DA for helping them to recover and restart their livelihood. “Dako kaayo ang akong pagsalamat sa DA nga naa mi’y nadawat na tabang, sa tinuod lang dako kaayo ang akong kasubo sa katong ning abot ang ASF sa among baboyan, dako kaayong lugi sa among mga negosyo, ug karon sa akong nadawat, akoa kining ireinvest balik kung okay na ang dagan sa pagpamaboy dinhi sa Bohol.” (I am very thankful to DA for the help we received. Honestly, I was deeply saddened when ASF hit our piggery. It caused huge losses to our business, but now with this support, I plan to reinvest once the situation improves.) The distribution was facilitated by the DA7’s Provincial Agricultural Technology Coordinating Office (PATCO-BOHOL), Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), and LGU Dauis.
