To boost the sweet corn production of the two (2) SAAD beneficiaries in the municipality of San Jose, Negros Oriental, the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development Program in Central Visayas (DA7-SAAD) recently distributed agri supplies, as part of the associations’ project packages.
These beneficiaries were the Barangay Basak Farmers Association (BBFA) in Brgy. Basak and Janay-Janay Farmers Association (JJFA) in Brgy. Janayjanay, each receiving 2 rolls of polyethylene hoses or a total of four (4) rolls, amounting to Php 31,400.00.
These hoses were additional interventions for the 2024 project packages intended for the sweet corn production project of both associations.
These hoses will provide irrigation as well as storing water in the plastic drums given to them earlier.
Anastacio T. Taguiam, the president of JJFA, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the SAAD program for the additional assistance to their project. He also added that with the hoses, they can easily store water especially during the dry season comes.
BBFA and JJFA are the only two SAAD farmer associations covered in Negros Oriental, under the Phase 2, who thrive in their sweet corn production.
Both associations were recipients of the Cattle and Sweet corn production with marketing enterprise project in 2023, based on the Beneficiary Needs Assessment conducted by the program in their respective localities.
With these additional interventions, the SAAD Program continues to empower farmer in Negros Oriental by providing essential resources for sustainable sweet corn production. Through ongoing support and strategic assistance, the program aims to enhance agricultural productivity, improve livelihoods, and strengthen local farming communities for a more resilient future.
