IN PHOTOS | The Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7) and the Department of Public Works and Highways ( DPWH) gathered in Siquijor this week (April 23-25, 2025) for a consultative meeting on the Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) Development Program to discuss updates on the 2024 and 2025 implemented projects in Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
The FMRs are being implemented by DPWH, with DA is to validate the location of the proposed FMR for the presence of agri production areas.
In his message during the opening, DA7 Regional Technical Director said that FMRs are more than infrastructure, but rather (FMR) it shorten the distance between poverty and progress, harvest and income of the farmers and hope and opportunity.
“We are meeting our district engineers, the magicians who turn muddy trails into highways of hope, we are not just coordinating programs, we are co-authoring success stories,” Castillo said.
DPWH Officer-In Charge (OIC) Division Chief, Engr. Joan Pitogo shared the importance of collaboration among agencies involved in the projects. The FMRs, she said provide the farmers easy access to markets, reduces transport cost and produce wastage, among others.
DA7 Regional Executive Director Angel C. Enriquez, said the FMRs are significant projects of the government, as these provide opportunities for the farmers that their farm products to reach the markets and increasing their income. With the presence of an FMR, farmers will likely expand their production areas as farm products are easy to transport.
A requirement for an FMR construction is DA’s validation report on the presence of agri commodities in the area.
