The Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7) through the Regional Agricultural and Engineering Division (RAED) conducted a contractors meeting on June 26, 2024, to discuss the status and updates of the ongoing 2024 infrastructure projects, held at the DA7’s office in Maguikay, Mandaue City.

The meeting was attended by the contractors of the different agri-infrastructure projects implemented in Bohol, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, and Cebu, together with the representatives of the different banner programs and the RAED staff.

Among the on-going projects are the solar power irrigation systems (SPIS), animal sheds, small water impounding projects (SWIP), diversion dams, rehabilitation of buildings for research and development, staff houses, facilities, and others.

The contractors started the implementation in the 2nd quarter and are now more than halfway of achieving the 100% physical accomplishment. It is expected to be completed by the 3rd quarter.

However, there are some issues arising in the implementation such as the unpredicted weather conditions, delayed delivery of materials, and other external factors that impede the smooth implementation of the projects.

“Let’s encourage everyone to present the updates on the construction methodology, the issues, and concerns, for us to provide solutions and prevent the escalation of problems that will go beyond our control, and let’s help each other,” said Engr. Edna N. Yu, Acting Chief of RAED.

Also, Dr. Melquiades B. Ibarra, Chief of Admin and Finance Division, looked forward for the contractors, implementers, and funding sources to have open communication to achieve a smooth flow of transactions and implementation of the projects.

These infrastructure projects will aid farmers and fisher folk to increase the yield of their production, increase income, ensure food security, and foster agricultural sustainability.
