The Department of Agriculture in Central Visayas (DA7) takes center stage today, June 18, 2024 as the guest-panelist during the regional Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, facilitated by Philippine Information Agency (PIA), as organized by the Presidential Communication Office (PCO).
The synchronized Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, which was simultaneously conducted in the national and regional offices of DA, presented their respective progress, milestones, and accomplishments.
DA7 OIC-Regional Executive Director Cirilo Namoc, in his presentation, discussed the region’s agricultural profile based on physical area and crops to include rice, corn, high value crops, coconut and sugarcane, among others. In addition, registered farmers and fisherfolk in the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture totaled 593,512.
For Central Visayas, among the priority commodities are swine, poultry, rice, corn, mango, coffee, cacao and the lowland and upland vegetables.
To achieve the goals of the agency- food security for the Filipino people and profitable industry for the farmers and fishers in the value chain, Engr. Namoc presented the 9 strategies, as outlined in the 4-year plan of DA.
One highlights of the presentation under the rice program was the increase in rice production in 2023 compared to 2022 by 20.91%, marking the highest production in four years.
