Hundreds of farmers and seafarers in northern Cebu from Medellin town, San Remigio, Daanbantayan, and Bogo City, attended the 1st Cebu Food Security Forum, yesterday, July 10, 2025, held at the Medellin Complex.
The activity is led by the private organization Cebu Food Sufficiency Advocates where this initiative is supported by the local government of Cebu province supported by the Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7) and DA member agencies.
In the proposed 5-year Food Security Program of Governor Pamela Baricuatro, the new governor of Cebu, former DA Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, who is Cebu’s food security adviser, explained the various programs to improve and expand food production, as well as increase the income of the residents. farmer and fisherman.




In the making, farmers and fishermen have come forward with their suggestions, issues and concerns regarding their livelihoods.
One of the featured speakers of the movement was former Undersecretary Dante Delima, where he shared on planting white and yellow corn, sorghum and soybean, as well as cow rearing, rent-to-own fish cages, financing projects and more.
The DA7 Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations, Dr. Wilberto O. Castillo, delivered his message where he shared that the DA has numerous interventions such as machinery, seeds, and fertilizers to be distributed to farmer cooperatives and associations in the towns to boost corn production.
