Farmers’ groups in Cebu City received agricultural inputs from the Department of Agriculture- Central Visayas (DA7) today, August 7, 2025.
The distribution was done at the Cebu City Agriculture Office (CAO), located at Barangay Mabolo, where 55 associations received plastic drums and organic fertilizers funded by the DA- National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP) and the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) with a total amount from Php 281, 820.00.
Farm inputs it will help farmers in the city affected by El Niño where their crops were damaged.
Personally facilitated by DA7 Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations, Dr. Wilberto O. Castillo, Certificate of Turnover of 70 plastic drums worth Php 134,400.00 from NUPAP, while 234 sacks of vermi-based organic fertilizer worth Php 147,420.00 from HVCDP.
According to Dir. Castillo, the DA is really seeking to provide interventions to farmers such as free vegetable seeds, fertilizers, and other equipment.
The mountainous barangays in Cebu City are known that plant high value crops such as lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, sayote, pechay, eggplant, okra, chili, and others.




Analy Baguio, vice president of Kang-atis Farmer’s Association shared in Brgy. Lusaran, and he said, “it’s a big help that we received today plastic drums, four sacks of vermicast, and the CAO people gave us a fish pond liner, we already have a foundation in our farming, whatever we need, we already received it for free. ”
Cebu City Vice Mayor Hon. Tommy Osmeña, City Councilour Committee Chair on Agriculture, Hon. Jun Alcover, City Agriculturist, Joey Baclayon, DA-HVCDP Regional Focal Person, Prescilla Soriano, and colleagues also attended the ceremonial turnover.
