Farmers from Enrique Villanueva, Siquijor underwent a Package of Technology (POT) on peanut production from the Department of Agriculture – Central Visayas (DA-7).
Conducted by the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) and the Regional Crop Protection Center, in collaboration with the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), the two-day POT was held on May 22–23, 2025, at the town’s poblacion.
Peanut farmers and interested individuals were equipped with knowledge and skills on modern technologies and practices on peanut farming.
Among the topics discussed include the basics of simple record keeping, common diseases and insect pests affecting peanuts, good agricultural practices and cultural management techniques to enhance productivity and ensure crop quality.
Teresita Jimenez, the Officer-in-Charge-MAO, expressed her appreciation to DA region for choosing their municipality as a beneficiary of the training.
“Nalipay mi kay kami ang gitagaan ng Package of Technology Training on Peanut Production kay kilala baya ang Siquijor sa mani sa una,” she said.
(We are happy to be recipient of the POT training on peanut production, as Siquijor was known before for its peanut.)
Jimenez also shared her hope to revitalize the peanut industry in their town.
“Unta puhon puhon mabalik ang daghang produksyon ng mani sa atoang lungsod,” she added.
