Some 35 rural women, who are members of the Kababayen-ang Banikanhon Isip Lig-ong Nibarog ug Nagkahiusa (KABILIN), an assisted women’s group of the Department of Agriculture- Central Visayas (DA7) in Brgy. Obat, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental attended a training on Ginger/Turmeric Production held at their Kabilin Training Center.
The KABILIN center was a project of the DA7 funded under rice program, as part of the agri-based livelihood project for women called the Gender Responsive Integrated and Diversified Farming System. This was also a project award to their women leader Luz Bador, who was the 1st runner-up in the National Search for Outstanding Rural Women in 2018.
The 3-day livelihood training, held May 21-23, 2024 was conducted by DA7 through the Provincial Agriculture Technology Coordinating Office (DA7 PATCO), Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), and LGU Santa Catalina was a request by the association themselves to enhance their skills and knowledge on on ginger and turmeric production, in preparation for their upcoming
agri based-food processing
training on Ginger and Turmeric Powder Tea processing, packaging and marketing.
Ginger-turmeric products will be an additional by-products venture of the KABILIN.
The DA7 had trained the group on banana-based processing with by-products on banana chips and other banana-based products.
