The proposed target areas for the establishment of a 100-hectare Adaptive Balanced Fertilization Strategy (ABFS) technology demonstrations in Northern Cebu were georeferenced this week (March 18-20, 2025).
The georeferencing activity was being conducted by technical staff from the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Soil and Water Management (DA-BSWM), with the DA-Central Visayas (DA7) Regional Soils Laboratory and Corn Program, the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (Cebu), and in partnership with the Municipal Agriculture Offices (LGUs) of Daanbantayan and San Remigio.
Identified sites for the ABFS are Brgy. Libaong in San Remigio, and Brgy. Maya in Daanbantayan.
During the georeferencing, Leolito Siase, Project Lead and SWAT Leader BSWM 7, briefed the farmers on the ABFS project, while Marya Zea Villaganas, Provincial Corn Coordinator explained the project’s workflow, saying “ang tumong ug tuyo nato dire karon, pagpalambo sa produksyon sa mais pinaagi sa sakto nga pagpangabono.”
As counterparting scheme, she said that DA will provide the seeds and fertilizers as inputs, while the farmers will be responsible for proper crop care, land preparation, and pest and diseases management. Both addressed the farmers’ questions regarding the project.
The fertilizer inputs are based on the standardized recommendations by the DA-Central Office nationwide, aiming to achieve consistent and positive results.
The project will serve as benchmark for future corn planting initiatives throughout the country.
