Some 16 mushroom growers and enthusiasts, as well as agriculture staff attended the special Saturday class with topic on mushroom farming held today, May 11, 2024 at the Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7) Complex in Mandaue City.

Participants were the mushroom growers from Mandaue City and Tuburan, Cebu, representatives from the Cebu Province Mushroom Growers Agriculture Cooperative (CPMGAC), personnel from the Mandaue City Agriculture Office, Tuburan Agriculture Office and regional office.

The discussions include the MASAGANA Rice Industry Development Program (MRIDP) of DA, 4-year plans and program of the DA, the rice program and activities, such as the mushroom production project.

In an interview with Dorothy Degula, the chairperson of the CPMGAC, encouraged the participants to engage in mushroom farming to increase and sustain the high demand of the mushroom industry across cities and municipalities in Cebu.

In support, John Vincent Nogra, the Crop Division chief of Mandaue City Agriculture Office, shared that their office is already planning to venture into mushroom farming. He was more encouraged to materialize the establishment with the CPMGAC as the consolidator of the mushroom produce.

Moreover, good agricultural practices (GAP) and organic farming were also introduced to the participants and engaged in a feedback session to raise concerns about agriculture in their respective areas.
