Some 50 Indigenous Peoples (IPs) of the Tribu Bukidnon-Magahat attended a 2-day Specialized Training on Corn/Cassava Production and Management on May 13-14, 2025 held in Barangay Maglinao, Basay, Negros Oriental.
The training is a social preparation for the IP, as they will be receiving a package project, which include fertilizer (organic and inorganic), corn seeds and cassava planting materials.
Topics discussed were corn/cassava cultural management and insect pests and and diseases and its management, with an actual field demonstration and pest and disease identification.
Teresita Valor, the president of the Maglinao Bal-os Bungalonan Tribu Bukidnon Magahat Association (MBBTBMA) who owns a 1 hectare cassava production area, shared that she gained technologies during the training.
(Iām happy with the training, for I gained knowledge on cassava production, and even corrected my wrong practices. Before, we just plant, not minding of the distance per hill of the cassava seed pieces and corn seeds, as we only follow from our parents. Today, with the right technologies, we will apply the 75cmx75cm distance for the cassava and 20cox70cm for corn.)
