IN PHOTOS | Technical personnel from the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM) and the DA- Central Visayas (DA7), in coordination with the Local Government of Tuburan and Barangay Kansi Farmer’s Association (BAKAFA) conducted a baseline field data gathering activity in Barangay Kansi, Tuburan, Cebu last April 21-25, 2025, being the identified site for the establishment of a technology demonstration on Sustainable Land Management in Corn Based Sloping Areas.

The SLM, on the first year of establishment will cover an area of 20-hectare, with the long term goal to cover 100-ha in the next 5 years.

The BSWM team composed of Jerry Paul Arciaga from the Soil and Water Resources Research Division (SWRRD), Vielle Guillermo of the Soil Conservation and Management Division (SCMD) together with Dexter Agustin and Neil Philip Sta. Rosa of the National Soil and Water Resources Research Development Center for Lowland-Upland Pedoecological Zone in Bulacan Station, conducted an evaluation on the soil biological activity across the different slopes in the SLM-Corn techdemo site.

Other activities include farmers interview, soil sampling, assessment of meso/macro fauna and simultaneous gathering of soil respiration.
The activities are part of the research efforts supporting SLM technologies of BSWM.
