Two batches of training on Climate Information Services (CIS) were conducted for the agricultural extension workers (AEWs) of the various Local Government Units of Negros Oriental and some attached agencies of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in the province.
Conducted by the DA7’s Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA), the training was held on June 4-5 and June 6-7, 2024 in Dumaguete City, equipped the participants with knowledge and skills on making farm weather outlook and advisories in the municipal level.
Antonio Tangayan Jr., the Climate Information Services Focal, said the AEWs play an important role in crafting climate outlook and advisories as these will serve as guide for the farmers in planning their farming activities such as planting, irrigation, and harvesting schedules.
Discussed during the training include Agro-Climatic Services of PAGASA, Introduction of Climate Information, Introduction to AMIA, Technical Inputs in Climate Resilient and Practices among others.
