The Department of Agriculture – Central Visayas (DA-7), in partnership with the Local Government Units of Maria and Lazi conducted a series of Package of Technology (POT) Training on Peanut Production held at respective municipal agriculture office.

The POT in Maria was on May 7-8, while in Lazi on May 9.

Participated by the peanut growers, the POT aimed to revive the peanut industry of the province and increase the yield of production.

Historically, Siquijor’s agricultural crops is peanut.

“We aim to bring back the glory to Siquijor as high producers of peanut,” said Mr. John Dennis R. Ranario, the regional High Value Crop Development Program focal person.

Maria Mayor Roselyn T. Asok, who attended the event in her municipality expressed her support to the peanut growers, highlighting their crucial role to revive the said crops. She emphasized that food production is her top priority.

Among the topics discussed in the two POTs were Philippine Good Agricultural Practices, Simple Record Keeping, Cultural Management Practices in Peanut Production, Major Peanut Insect Pests and their Management and Major Peanut Diseases and Management Practices.

After the discussion, the participants undewent field activities.
