IN PHOTOS | As part of the mango rehabilitation project of the Department of Agriculture- Central Visayas (DA 7) under the High Value Crop Development Program (HVCDP), some 38 mango trees underwent flower induction technology demonstration held at Barangay Helen, Larena, Siquijor.
The team from the DA7’s Integrated Laboratory Division (ILD), in collaboration with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, sprayed a calcium nitrate solution to the matured mango trees with dark foliage (leaves) to stimulate flowering, that will lead to fruit formation.
Prior to flower induction, these mango trees underwent pruning process, a technology that remove old, unnecessary and diseased branches and help in flower bud formation.
The inducted mango trees are expected to bear flowers approximately 10 days following the induction process.
